MPN Named Finalist for Sustainable Solutions Challenge 2025

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y., (September 18th, 2025)

Miller Proctor Nickolas, Inc. (MPN), an employee-owned heating solutions company based in New York, has been selected as a Cohort 2 finalist in the Sustainable Solutions Challenge led by the New York Climate Exchange.

This challenge seeks out groundbreaking, implementation-ready technologies that will be featured in the Climate Hub on Governors Island, set to open in 2029. The hub will serve as a global model for resilient, low-carbon urban design and a living laboratory for sustainability.

MPN’s Innovative Heat Pump Technology

MPN earned its finalist spot thanks to its new water source heat pump technology, capable of producing low-pressure steam and hydronic heating. This system supports both new-build and retrofit projects aiming to achieve zero-carbon emissions.

Unlike conventional systems, MPN’s solution repurposes waste heat from multiple sources to provide efficient, localised heating across buildings and shared spaces. This innovation directly supports New York City’s Local Law 97 and 154 goals on carbon reduction.

“Over the last few years, MPN has grown from a leading boiler sales and service company to a heating solutions and sustainability company,” said Jaime Tetrault, MPN’s President & CEO.
“We are extremely honoured to be selected as a finalist and proud to be considered a leader in New York City’s decarbonisation efforts.”

A Vision for a Cleaner Future

The Climate Exchange’s Governor’s Island hub will bring together pioneers in climate technology, energy efficiency, and ecological design. As part of the initiative, MPN hopes to integrate its multi-source high-temperature heat pump solution into both new construction and adaptive reuse projects, creating an advanced energy network across the island.

Julia Cyr, MPN’s Sustainability Business Development lead, added:

“The Governor’s Island climate hub will be a beacon of sustainable building and technology in NYC and globally. MPN is proud to be part of this challenge and looks forward to demonstrating our heat recovery solutions on a larger scale.”

Miller Proctor Nickolas, Inc (MPN) Wins The Empire Technology Prize New York 2025

[Sleepy Hollow, NY] – [September 19th, 2025]

Miller Proctor Nickolas, Inc (MPN) Wins The Empire Technology Prize; Launches New Venture to Accelerate Decarbonized Heating Solutions Adoption

Miller Proctor Nickolas, Inc. (MPN), a recognized employee-owned company and leading heating solutions and service provider in the New York City Metro Area, wins a one-of-a-kind competition for the future of heating in New York called The Empire Technology Prize for their water source heat pump steam & hydronic generating system featuring Oilon ChillHeat units.

MPN was selected as the winner against six competitors including five other heat pump providers. The competition focused on solution’s ability to decarbonize tall buildings in New York City with economically feasible technology and local presence with a capability to sell, service and install the product.

The competition was nearly two years long and challenged all the competitors to design a zero-carbon solution which would align with New York City’s Local Law 97 and 154’s mandate to eliminate carbon-based fuel burning heating technology.

This was no easy task as much of the city’s infrastructure does not allow for simple retrofits. Most buildings have single pass steam pipe to radiators and installing ducting and long runs of refrigerant lines is costly, space prohibitive and risky of refrigerant leaks with ozone damaging impacts. The solution provided by MPN overcame these challenges and is being recognized as the best solution available for building owners and operators who desire to conform to the local laws in the upcoming years.

A New Chapter for Growth and Impact

In response to the market interest over the last year for this ground-breaking new technology, and to be better equipped to help the New York decarbonization effort., MPN is excited to announce the launch of Hudson Clean Heat, a sister company to MPN and a part of the 2Hudson family of companies. Hudson Clean Heat will be a dedicated team specifically focused on bringing MPN’s sustainability solutions to the NYC Metro area.

MPN will begin slowly transitioning their sustainability team to the Hudson Clean Heat, with a target for the full transition to be completed by January 1st, 2026.

By launching this new entity, Hudson Clean Heat, MPN and 2Hudson are committed to:

  • Distinguishing their boiler business from their sustainability solutions, making it clear to customers the different missions of each company.
  • Meeting growing demand for Local Law 97 compliance solutions.
  • Strengthening partnerships with clients, communities, and policymakers.

MPN President & 2Hudson CEO Jaime Tetrault quoted, “Being recognized as the winner of The Empire Technology Prize affirms the innovate nature of our solution design and the importance of creating visibility of this new heating solution to the owners and operators of buildings across New York City. The creation of Hudson Clean Heat allows us to differentiate our sustainable solutions from our boiler business, better serve a different set of partners, and meet the expectations of our customers with a focus on staying abreast of the most advanced green-energy solutions in the marketplace.”

Quote from MPN’s Principal, Sales and Business Development Manager Ian Rowburrey “The competition was incredibly challenging as the competition was proposing some very well-designed solutions. One of the largest advantages MPN had in the competition was our overall knowledge of the steam challenges the buildings of NYC face. MPN is a boiler company and we know steam. We also know the owners, operators, MEP engineering firms and the subcontractors who have to install the technology. Our goal was to identify a technology which was both easy to install and retrofit, and also readily available in the global market. Finding Oilon’s water source heat pump was a major milestone for MPN in that it allowed us to combine all these market needs into a comprehensive solution able to achieve all these goals.”
